A TrueCoach alternative for in-person personal trainers

By Catalin from GorilloLast checked

Gorillo is the alternative for trainers who coach in the gym. You log each session by voice or chat as it happens, and your packages, memberships and calendar sit on one phone. It starts at $14.99 a month for 5 clients, with every feature in every plan. TrueCoach is built for programmes clients follow on their own; the price table shows what each costs.

TrueCoach is built for solo and online coaches, strength and conditioning, bodybuilding and weightlifting coaches, physical therapists and other healthcare practitioners, and CrossFit coaches and recreation centres.

Where TrueCoach is the better choice

If you need any of these, choose TrueCoach. Gorillo does not have them.

  • Programmes clients follow on their own. TrueCoach has a calendar-based workout builder with sets, reps, tempo and rest, saved programmes you can assign from any start date, and clients who log their workouts, review past results and comment in the app. Gorillo has no multi-week programme builder, and clients do not log workouts you assign them.
  • An exercise video library. The builder links a demo video to each exercise, and you can upload your own or link YouTube and Vimeo. Its pages give the library’s size as 900+, 1,200+, 3,000+ and 3,500+. Gorillo has no video library.
  • Strength and conditioning, rehab and CrossFit use. TrueCoach has pages for strength and conditioning, bodybuilding, weightlifting, physical therapy and CrossFit coaches, custom metrics, and wearable integrations on Standard and Pro.
  • Client payments inside the app, included. Recurring and one-time payments through Stripe come with every plan at no add-on fee, in the US, UK, Canada and Australia only. Gorillo records payments; it does not take them.
  • A public coach profile and nutrition goals. Standard and Pro have a storefront page where prospects can apply to train with you, and every plan sets calorie and macro goals through MyFitnessPal.
  • Push and email notifications. TrueCoach tells you when a client completes a workout or comments.

Where Gorillo fits better

Gorillo is built for the trainer who is in the room with the client.

  • Live logging. Say or type the sets as the client does them, and Gorillo writes the session up with AI. Nothing to rebuild from memory at nine at night.
  • Packages & memberships on the same phone as your calendar. Each session uses one and you see what is left, next to your 1:1s and classes, with a web desk for the bigger screen.
  • Priced by how many clients you coach, from $14.99 a month for 5 clients. Every feature is in every plan.
  • Payments recorded, not processed. Clients pay you the way they already do. Gorillo keeps track of who has paid and who owes, takes no cut and never touches your clients’ card payments.

Gorillo is built for the session itself, not for coaching from a distance. It does not have:

  • An exercise video library.
  • A multi-week programme builder.
  • Clients logging the workouts you assign them.
  • Nutrition plans.
  • An app under your own name.
  • Payments inside the app.

Questions

Is Gorillo cheaper than TrueCoach?

On the price shown, Gorillo is lower at every roster size where both list a price (5, 15, 30, 40 and 50 clients), but TrueCoach includes things Gorillo does not. Prices as shown on 30 October 2026, in US dollars, billed monthly. Gorillo’s dollar prices are before sales tax. TrueCoach: its page does not say whether tax is added. At 5 clients: Gorillo $14.99, TrueCoach $29.98. At 15 clients: Gorillo $39.99, TrueCoach $69.98. At 30 clients: Gorillo $69.99, TrueCoach $164.98. At 40 clients: Gorillo $69.99, TrueCoach $164.98. At 50 clients: Gorillo $139.99, TrueCoach $164.98. TrueCoach’s plans also include a multi-week programme builder, an exercise video library and, in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, client payments through Stripe. Gorillo has none of these. TrueCoach shows no price above 50 clients.

Can I send workout programmes and exercise videos with Gorillo?

No. Gorillo has no multi-week programme builder and no exercise video library, and clients do not log workouts you assign them. It is built for the session itself: you log the sets as the client does them and Gorillo writes the session up. If your clients follow programmes on their own between sessions, choose TrueCoach.

Can my clients pay me through Gorillo?

No, by design. Gorillo records what a client has paid and what is still owed, but it never processes a payment and takes no cut. Clients pay you the way they do today. TrueCoach does take payments in the app through Stripe, in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, so if that matters to you and you work in one of them, choose TrueCoach.

Can I move my clients over?

Add them as they come. Clients you archive do not count toward your plan. If you would rather not type them in, send your client list to the founder and it will be entered for you.
